Gas-kinetic scheme for rarefied flow simulation

چکیده
For increasingly rarefied flowfields, the predictions from continuum formulation, such as the Navier–Stokes equations lose accuracy. These inaccuracies are attributed primarily to the linear approximations of the stress and heat flux terms in the Navier– Stokes equations. The inclusion of higher order terms, such as Burnett, or high-order moment equations, could improve the predictive capabilities of such continuum formulations, but there has been limited success in the shock structure calculations, especially in the high Mach number case. Here, after reformulating the viscosity and heat conduction coefficients appropriate for the rarefied flow regime, we will show that the extended Navier–Stokes-type continuum formulation may still be properly used. The equations with generalized dissipative coefficients based on the closed solution of the Bhatnagar–Gross–Krook (BGK) model of the Boltzmann equation, are solved using the gas-kinetic numerical scheme. © 2006 IMACS. متن کاملMultiple temperature kinetic model and gas-kinetic method for hypersonic non-equilibrium flow computations
It is well known that for increasingly rarefied flowfields, the predictions from continuum formulation, such as the Navier–Stokes equations lose accuracy. For the high speed diatomic molecular flow in the transitional regime, the inaccuracies are partially attributed to the single temperature approximations in the Navier–Stokes equations. Here, we propose a continuum multiple temperature model ...
متن کاملA fast iterative model for discrete velocity calculations on triangular grids
A fast synthetic type iterative model is proposed to speed up the slow convergence of discrete velocity algorithms for solving linear kinetic equations on triangular lattices. The efficiency of the scheme is verified both theoretically by a discrete Fourier stability analysis and computationally by solving a rarefied gas flow problem. The stability analysis of the discrete kinetic equations yie...
متن کاملKinetic modeling of the transient flows of single gases and gaseous mixtures
A gas inside the microsystems or the porous media is in its non-equilibrium state, due to the fact that the molecular mean free path is comparable to the characteristic dimension of the media. The same state of a gas, called rarefied, is found at high altitude or in the vacuum equipment working at low pressure. All these types of flow can be described by the kinetic models derived from the Bolt...
متن کاملThe study of sound wave propagation in rarefied gases using unified gas-kinetic scheme
Sound wave propagation in rarefied monatomic gases is simulated using a newly developed unified gaskinetic scheme (UGKS). The numerical calculations are carried out for a wide range of wave oscillating frequencies. The corresponding rarefaction parameter is defined as the ratio of sound wave frequency to the intermolecular particle collision frequency. The simulation covers the flow regime from...
